Dear Lord,
I come to You today with a heart full of thanks, but also a little confusion.
This year, You blessed our farm in ways I can’t quite wrap my head around.
The fields were full, the barns stayed steady, and the table is heavy with plenty.
But when I look around at my neighbors, I see the weight they’ve carried.
I see empty fields, broken machinery, and the quiet worry in their eyes.
I know You don’t owe me an explanation, Lord.
You work in ways I’ll never understand, and I trust You have reasons beyond what I can see.
But here I sit, with more than enough, while the folks next door are scraping by.
It feels strange to invite them to this table full of Your blessings—
Like I’m flaunting what You gave me when they’re doing their best with less.
They’re good people, Lord. Honest, hardworking, salt-of-the-earth folks.
They’re not complaining—not to me, not even to You, as far as I know.
But I can see it in their tired hands and in the way they nurse their coffee at the café,
Worrying about how to stretch what little they have.
I don’t know what to say to them, God.
“Come share in our blessings” feels both kind and cruel, all at once.
And I don’t know what to say to You, either.
How do I thank You without sounding like I’m forgetting their struggles?
How do I celebrate my harvest without feeling guilty for the size of it?
I guess what I’m trying to say is, thank You.
Not just for the food on our table and the roof over our heads,
But for the chance to share what we’ve been given,
For neighbors who stick together, and for the quiet strength You’ve put in all of us.
If next year is harder for us and easier for them, that’s okay.
We’ve had more than our fair share this time around.
But if it’s Your will, God, I wouldn’t mind You spreading the blessings a little wider—
And easing the weight off their shoulders.
Give me the words, Lord, to show them love without pity,
To offer what I can without making them feel small.
Help me honor You and these folks who share the same dirt and sky,
And teach me how to be the kind of neighbor You’d want me to be.
Amen.
