Ranch Life Fashion Sells Pre-Ripped Jeans for 0; Cowboy Offers Real Damage Free

Designer Denim Fakes the Wear Ranch Work Gives Free

AMARILLO, Texas (Farm.FM) — The ranch life fashion industry has introduced $250 jeans with authentic-looking tears, distressed seams, and a delicate perfume described as Hard Work, Before the Work. Actual ranchers say they can provide all three for the price of one afternoon fixing a fence.

The Premium Prairie Suffering collection promises rugged western labor without the actual livestock or weather.

“Those aren’t work pants,” said rancher Dale Pritchard, examining a designer pair. “Those are pants somebody already charged you to wreck. Mine get wrecked while I owe the bank money. That’s the authentic experience.”

A fashion consultant explained that the carefully placed knee holes symbolize resilience. Pritchard pointed to his jeans, which had acquired the same holes in February when a gate hinge failed. The consultant called his pair unsustainably distressed.

Ranch Life Now Comes With a Return Policy

Shoppers can choose from Dusty Sunrise, Broken Fence Beige, and Inherited Land Anxiety. The jeans arrive with a card identifying a ranching emotion. No one is permitted to select Actual Profit because the company considers it historically inaccurate.

The boutique unveiled a $175 shirt with simulated grease. Pritchard offered genuine grease for free. Management escorted him out.

Real agricultural economics make the costume even funnier. The USDA’s September 2026 farm household forecast estimates median income from farming among farm operator households at negative $467 for 2026, while many households rely on outside employment. The country has found a way to turn financial strain into a lifestyle product and charge a premium for the stitching.

“Apparently ranch life is profitable,” Pritchard said. “You just have to stop ranching and sell photographs of ranching.”

The Cowboy Experience, Without the Cows

A marketing executive insisted the clothing honors rural heritage. Her last ranch experience involved artisanal coffee and a liability waiver.

Pritchard described his own schedule: checking water, feeding cattle, repairing wire, searching for a missing bull, and coming home too tired to complain properly. The executive suggested rebranding it as a five-stage mindfulness journey.

Real working cowboys, meanwhile, have their own competitive tradition. The Working Ranch Cowboys Association celebrates practical ranch skills such as penning, branding, and stray gathering. None of its championship events involves selecting a tasteful belt buckle for brunch.

The designer’s newest accessory is a $90 bandana sold with a certificate declaring the owner “ranch adjacent.” Pritchard asked whether that meant the customer lived next to a ranch. No, said the executive. It meant the customer had watched three episodes of a western.

Pritchard left the showroom with his original jeans. They had acquired another rip when he backed into a display of decorative barbed wire.

The company offered him a modeling contract. He asked whether it included health insurance, a tractor payment, and somebody to fix his gate.

The company said it could offer store credit.

Disclaimer: The fashion line, interviewees, showroom events, and quotations are satirical. Linked agricultural and ranch-rodeo background is genuine. This story is entirely a human collaboration between two sentient beings: the world’s oldest tenured professor and a philosophy major turned dairy farmer.
