Cowboy Congress
Austin Rawles and the Antioch Outlaws
(Verse 1)
Well, I heard about a place where they do things right,
A bunch of cowboys ridin’ through the dead of night.
They don’t sit in committees or squabble on the floor,
They just draw at high noon—settle the score!
(Chorus)
Cowboy Congress, they don’t need no ties,
Just a lasso, some boots, and a look in their eyes.
They’ll cut through the red tape with a rusty knife,
‘Cause a cowboy’s code is how they live their life!
(Verse 2)
They’ll debate over coffee by the campfire light,
No more filibusters lastin’ all night.
Every bill gets settled with a hoedown dance,
And if you can’t two-step, you don’t stand a chance!
(Chorus)
Cowboy Congress, forget the party lines,
Just sheep and cattle folk, ridin’ the fence lines.
They keep their promises, sworn on a rope,
Break your word, and you’re out of hope!
(Bridge)
If you want to block a bill, better grab your rope,
See how many senators you can hold and hope!
And if you’re caught cheatin’ or tellin’ a lie,
Well, you’ll be boot-scootin’ right out of the sky.
(Verse 3)
Foreign deals get done with a friendly handshake,
Trading horses and stories down by the lake.
The budget gets cut with a swift slice of the wire,
And they’ll auction off the nonsense to the highest buyer!
(Chorus)
Cowboy Congress, no back-room deals,
Just barn-raising talks with hammer and steel.
They’ll settle disputes with jerky and a grin,
And they know every fight ends where it begins.
(Verse 4)
C-SPAN would show a weekly cattle drive,
Leadin’ stubborn steers to the finish line.
Ain’t no bribes, just a pie from the farm,
‘Cause a cowboy’s deal is done with charm.
(Chorus)
Cowboy Congress, they don’t take no bribes,
Just a fresh apple pie with a dash of pride.
They’ll steer this country like a herd on the plains,
With open skies and no rusty chains!
(Outro)
So here’s to the cowboys who’d fix D.C.,
With a rope in their hand and a heart that’s free.
If they ever take over, well, it sure ain’t wrong,
Just give ‘em a hat and a cowboy song!
(Final Chorus)
Cowboy Congress, it’s a lawman’s dream,
A lasso, some boots, and a star’s bright gleam.
They’ll get things done without any fuss,
‘Cause a cowboy’s heart is made to trust!

Passing the Prairie Law: Cowboy Congress
by Dr. Alan Nafzger (Colin County College – Rockwall Campus)
The Cowboy Congress meets under the sky,
With prairie winds howlin’ and coyotes nearby.
No city halls or marble floors,
Just the wide-open range and freedom’s doors.
They sit on their saddles and pass the word,
Each cowboy’s voice like a wild prairie bird.
With a nod and a whistle, the vote is cast,
And the laws of the prairie are made to last.
No ink or scrolls, just a brand in the fire,
A sign that the cowboys never tire.
They wrangle the rules like a wild mustang,
And settle disputes with a hand’s firm clang.
The Cowboy Congress rules with a steady hand,
With justice as clear as the wide-open land.
They pass the prairie law without regret,
A code of the West that no one’ll forget.
The Saloon Senate: Bills Passed Over a Shot of Whiskey
by Dr. Alan Nafzger (Colin County College – Rockwall Campus)
In the dim-lit corners of the old saloon,
Where the piano played its lonesome tune,
The Senate gathered with mugs in hand,
Passing laws that could rule the land.
No filibusters, no fancy talk,
Just a shot of whiskey and a cowboy’s walk.
Bills were debated over pints and cheer,
And laws were passed with a round of beer.
Each man had a say, from rancher to rogue,
And the barkeep kept order with a wry epilogue.
The gavel was a shot glass slammed on the bar,
And the laws of the West were never far.
So raise a glass high to the Saloon Senate’s reign,
Where laws were simple, without the strain.
Passed over whiskey and a nod of the head,
The code of the West, by which they were led.
